Factory workers face the possibility of catastrophic injuries

People who work in factories manufacture the goods that people count on. These important jobs aren’t always safe. The conditions present in the factory can lead to catastrophic injuries.

It’s up to employers to ensure that these workers have the proper training, tools and protocols to remain safe. Factory workers must ensure they understand how to stay safe while they’re doing their job duties.

What are some of the specific dangers of factory work?

Moving machines are one of the biggest dangers that factory workers face because they can amputate or crush body parts. They come with a risk of entrapment, lacerations and other injuries. Knowing how these machines operate and ensuring guards are properly in place are important.

Chemicals and solvents that are used during the manufacturing process can lead to severe burns. Access to the material safety data sheets can help employees learn about the first aid necessary if they come into contact with these chemicals. Additionally, skin and eye protection are equally important.

Noise isn’t often thought of by factory workers, but prolonged exposure to noise can lead to hearing loss. Factory workers who are exposed to noise should have adequate ear protection. Periodic hearing checks are also important because they provide a chance to learn about hearing loss as early as possible.

Any factory worker who suffers an injury at work will need to obtain medical care. The cost of this should be covered by workers’ compensation. If the injury is serious, workers’ compensation may also cover partial wage replacement and provide other benefits.
